It is with great honor and a deep sense of purpose that we present the inaugural issue of the Journal of Human-Social Nexus (JHSN), published by the ABS Research Academy under the inspiring slogan “Academics for Better Society.” The creation of this journal marks not just the beginning of another academic platform but the realization of a vision—to bridge the worlds of scholarship and society, theory and practice, research and responsibility. At a time when humanity is navigating rapid technological change, environmental uncertainty, and deep social divisions, there is an urgent need for research that enlightens, empowers, and elevates. JHSN was born from this conviction: that knowledge must not remain confined to classrooms or journals, but must serve as a tool for building a better, fairer, and more sustainable world.
As the Editor-in-Chief, I believe the idea of the human–social nexus is not merely an academic theme but a moral imperative. In today’s polarized and rapidly evolving world, understanding how human values interact with social systems is fundamental to building compassionate and resilient societies. This journal was established with the conviction that research must illuminate real lives, amplify diverse voices, and inspire transformation. What distinguishes JHSN from other interdisciplinary journals is our deliberate focus on socially responsible scholarship—research that does not only analyse society but strives to improve it.
The ABS Research Academy was founded on the belief that the pursuit of knowledge is inseparable from the pursuit of societal progress. Guided by its slogan, “Academics for Better Society,” ABS aims to cultivate a generation of scholars who see education and research as vehicles for positive change. Through its global network of researchers, training programs, and publications, the Academy works to foster critical thinking, inclusivity, and innovation—particularly among scholars from developing and underrepresented regions. ABS envisions an academic ecosystem where ideas are not limited by geography or hierarchy but are united by a shared purpose: to contribute to humanity through the power of research and collaboration.
The Journal of Human-Social Nexus stands at the heart of this vision. It provides an open and interdisciplinary platform for exploring the complex and evolving relationship between individuals, communities, and societies. The journal’s primary aim is to encourage dialogue and discovery across the humanities and social sciences, uniting disciplines that together explain the human condition and shape the collective future. JHSN welcomes research that explores diverse themes—social change, cultural identity, ethics, education, governance, digital transformation, economic development, sustainability, and psychological well-being, among others. In doing so, it seeks to illuminate how human values, institutions, and innovations influence social structures and, ultimately, the quality of life.
To demonstrate our commitment to inclusivity, it is important to recognize how scholarship from developing regions enriches global knowledge. Community-driven health innovations in South Asia, climate-resilient practices in Sub-Saharan Africa, and indigenous education models across Latin America offer powerful, low-cost, and contextually relevant solutions to global challenges. These examples highlight that the Global South does not simply adopt knowledge—it creates and reshapes it, enriching global academic discourse with diverse perspectives and lived realities.
In today’s interconnected yet fragmented world, understanding the human–social nexus has become more vital than ever. The modern era is defined by complex, interlinked challenges — from inequality, poverty, and unemployment to mental health decline, educational disparity, and social distrust exacerbated by misinformation and the digital divide. Political polarization, weak governance, and ethical dilemmas arising from rapid technological advances further strain the social fabric, while climate change and resource depletion threaten the sustainability of our shared future. The COVID-19 pandemic served as a stark reminder that humanity shares not only vulnerabilities but also a collective responsibility. It underscored that resilience depends not solely on science or policy, but on empathy, cooperation, and ethical governance. The Journal of Human–Social Nexus (JHSN) seeks to bring these perspectives together by promoting scholarship that is critical, creative, and socially relevant—fostering research that bridges disciplines and contributes meaningfully to a more just, compassionate, and sustainable world.
The mission of JHSN aligns closely with the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which calls for inclusive education, equality, peace, justice, and partnerships for progress. We believe that sustainable societies cannot emerge through economic or technological growth alone; they must be built upon human understanding, ethical leadership, and shared social values. By fostering cross-disciplinary research, JHSN hopes to contribute to achieving these goals and to inspire scholars to use their expertise in addressing humanity’s most pressing issues. The journal aims to serve as both a mirror and a guide—a reflection of society’s challenges and a source of ideas for navigating them.
To provide clear direction for contributors, JHSN will prioritize three thematic areas in its first publication year:
1. Social resilience and community well-being
2. Digital inclusion and equitable access to emerging technologies
3. Ethical governance and institutional integrity
These priorities reflect our long-term mission of cultivating scholarship that is both relevant and impactful.
As part of the ABS Research Academy, JHSN upholds the highest academic and ethical standards. Every submission undergoes a double-blind peer review process to ensure fairness, objectivity, and quality. The journal adheres to international publication ethics and promotes inclusiveness at every stage of the editorial process. Each article is assigned a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) through Crossref, ensuring global visibility and long-term accessibility. JHSN is indexed in Google Scholar and will pursue inclusion in Scopus and Web of Science as part of its long-term vision. These steps reflect our commitment to credibility, transparency, and impact.
But JHSN is more than a journal—it is a community. It is a space where scholars, practitioners, and policymakers can exchange ideas, debate challenges, and collaborate in the spirit of Academics for Better Society. The journal welcomes not only empirical research but also theoretical reflections, conceptual analyses, policy discussions, and case studies that offer fresh perspectives on human and social development. We particularly encourage submissions that explore the experiences of developing nations, amplify marginalized voices, and connect local realities with global challenges. By valuing diversity and inclusivity, we aim to democratize academic discourse and make it more representative of the world we live in.
Looking ahead, JHSN will strive to deepen its role as a catalyst for interdisciplinary research and knowledge-sharing. The journal plans to publish special issues on emerging topics such as digital ethics, social innovation, human–AI interaction, and sustainable governance. Through collaboration with universities, think tanks, and non-profit organizations, we hope to translate scholarly insights into tangible actions that benefit communities and shape future policies. In line with ABS’s broader mission, JHSN will also support young scholars through mentorship and training programs focused on academic writing, publishing ethics, and methodological development.
The launch of this inaugural issue is the result of collective vision and effort. We extend our sincere gratitude to our editorial board members, reviewers, contributors, and the dedicated ABS Research Academy team for their unwavering support. Their belief in the mission of Academics for Better Society and their commitment to promoting high-quality research have made this milestone possible. We also thank the broader academic community for welcoming JHSN as a new space for intellectual exchange and social reflection.
In launching the Journal of Human-Social Nexus, we reaffirm our belief that academia’s highest purpose is to serve humanity. We envision JHSN not merely as a collection of papers, but as a platform for hope, reflection, and change—a place where diverse voices can converge to explore what it means to be human in a rapidly evolving world. Guided by the philosophy and slogan “Academics for Better Society,” we dedicate this journal to the pursuit of wisdom, inclusion, and progress. Together, as researchers, thinkers, and changemakers, we can transform ideas into impact and knowledge into a lasting contribution to humankind.
