Reviewer and Editor Guidelines

The Journal of Human‑Social Nexus (JHSN) is committed to maintaining a fair, rigorous, transparent, and ethical peer review process that upholds the highest standards of scholarly publishing. Reviewers and editors play a fundamental role in ensuring the quality, integrity, and credibility of the research published in the journal. JHSN follows a double‑blind peer review system and adheres to the principles and best practices established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Role of Reviewers

Reviewers are selected based on their expertise and experience in the relevant research area. Their primary responsibility is to provide an independent, objective, and constructive assessment of submitted manuscripts, assisting editors in making informed publication decisions while helping authors improve the quality of their work.

Reviewers are expected to:

  • Evaluate manuscripts solely on their academic merit, originality, methodological rigor, significance, clarity, and relevance to the journal's scope.
  • Provide fair, objective, respectful, and evidence‑based comments that support authors in improving their manuscripts.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality throughout the review process and treat all submitted materials as confidential documents.
  • Complete reviews within the requested timeframe or promptly inform the Editorial Office if additional time is required.
  • Declare any financial, institutional, professional, or personal conflicts of interest before accepting a review invitation and decline the review where impartiality may be compromised.
  • Identify relevant published literature that has not been cited where appropriate.
  • Report any concerns regarding plagiarism, duplicate publication, data fabrication, image manipulation, unethical research practices, citation manipulation, or other forms of research misconduct.
  • Refrain from using unpublished information obtained through peer review for personal, academic, or commercial benefit.

Reviewers should provide one of the following recommendations after completing their evaluation:

  • Accept
  • Minor Revision
  • Major Revision
  • Reject

The recommendation should always be supported by detailed comments and constructive suggestions.

Role of Editors

Editors are responsible for managing the editorial process with fairness, consistency, confidentiality, and academic independence. Editorial decisions are based exclusively on the scholarly quality of the manuscript and are never influenced by commercial interests, institutional affiliations, nationality, gender, ethnicity, political beliefs, or personal relationships.

Editors are responsible for:

  • Conducting an initial editorial assessment to determine whether a manuscript falls within the journal's aims and scope and satisfies the minimum quality requirements.
  • Selecting qualified, independent reviewers with appropriate subject expertise.
  • Monitoring the peer review process to ensure reviews are completed professionally and within reasonable timeframes.
  • Evaluating reviewer reports objectively and making editorial decisions based on the overall scientific merit of the manuscript.
  • Ensuring that all submissions comply with the journal's ethical standards and publication policies.
  • Protecting the confidentiality of manuscripts, reviewer identities, and editorial communications.
  • Managing conflicts of interest by reassigning manuscripts where necessary.
  • Investigating allegations of plagiarism, duplicate publication, authorship disputes, citation manipulation, peer review manipulation, paper mill activity, fabricated data, or other forms of publication misconduct.
  • Issuing corrections, expressions of concern, or retractions where required to maintain the integrity of the scholarly record.
  • Handling author appeals and complaints fairly, transparently, and in accordance with established editorial procedures.

The final decision regarding publication rests with the Editor‑in‑Chief.

Confidentiality

Editors and reviewers must maintain complete confidentiality throughout the editorial process. Manuscripts received for evaluation are confidential documents and must not be shared, discussed, or distributed without authorization from the Editorial Office.

Confidential information obtained during peer review must never be used for personal research, professional advantage, or commercial purposes.

Conflicts of Interest

Editors and reviewers must disclose any actual or potential conflicts of interest that could influence, or reasonably be perceived to influence, their judgment.

Examples include:

  • Financial interests.
  • Employment or institutional affiliations.
  • Current or recent research collaborations.
  • Personal relationships.
  • Academic competition.

Individuals with significant conflicts of interest should decline participation in the review or editorial process.

Ethical Responsibilities

Editors and reviewers share responsibility for safeguarding research integrity and promoting ethical publishing practices. They are expected to identify and report any concerns relating to:

  • Plagiarism and self‑plagiarism.
  • Duplicate or redundant publication.
  • Fabricated or falsified data.
  • Image manipulation.
  • Citation manipulation.
  • Authorship disputes.
  • Ethical approval for human or animal research.
  • Undisclosed conflicts of interest.
  • Peer review manipulation.
  • Paper mill submissions.
  • AI‑generated fraudulent or misleading content.

All suspected cases of publication misconduct will be investigated in accordance with the recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE).

Use of Artificial Intelligence

Editors and reviewers must not upload confidential manuscripts, reviewer reports, or editorial correspondence to public generative artificial intelligence platforms or external online services.

Artificial intelligence tools may be used only for limited administrative or language‑support purposes and must never replace independent editorial judgment or expert peer review.

Professional Conduct

Editors and reviewers are expected to communicate professionally, respectfully, and constructively at all times. Comments should focus on improving the quality of the manuscript and should never contain discriminatory, offensive, or personal remarks.

All participants in the editorial process should demonstrate fairness, integrity, transparency, accountability, and respect for academic diversity.
